The trailer for Michaël R Roskom's The Drop (formerly titled Animal Rescue) dropped (sorry) today, and it's certainly worth a look. The film stars Tom Hardy, James Gandolfini, Noomi Rapace, and Matthias Schoenaerts, and notably will be Gandolfini's final performance released. More notably, though, it is Roskom's follow up to his Oscar-nominated debut Bullhead. If you haven't seen Bullhead (odds are, you haven't), get on that right now. This looks like it's being made in a similar vein, just as visually dynamic, fast-paced, and high-genre as Roskom's last film. The cast looks like they're in good shape, and it's great to see Schoenaerts in there, especially after his lead in Bullhead produced both the most underrated performance of 2011 and the most underrated actor working today. Seriously, see Bullhead. The trailer may not look as good as I might have hoped, but it reeks more of bad trailer/the studio trying to lie about how abrasive the director's style is. On a final note, the film is written by Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island author Denis Lehane, adapted from his own story. Without further adieu, here's the trailer.
